After bereavement: Kampl's future at RB open

After a family bereavement, the future of midfielder Kevin Kampl at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig is completely open. The 35-year-old has not played for the club since last September. "Kevin can decide for himself how long he needs. What he wants to do, together with his family. We've given him that time," said coach Ole Werner on the sidelines of the match against Bayer Leverkusen on TV channel Sky.

According to sporting director Marcel Schäfer, "there are several options on the table". However, no decision has yet been made. "In recent weeks, we have had several open, very confidential, honest discussions with Kevin - about the really, really special circumstances and his family situation," said Schäfer. "The most important thing for us, and this is how we have handled the last few weeks, is the well-being of Kevin and his family."

Kampl had reported the bereavement within the family a few weeks ago and thanked them for their sympathy. "Rest in peace my big brother, we will miss you even if you are always with us! With eternal love .... Your little brother," he wrote on Instagram at the beginning of November and posted a picture of himself at a grave.
