District of Leipzig bans bird fairs and poultry markets

Due to the continuing high risk of bird flu, the district of Leipzig has banned all poultry markets and bird fairs until further notice. Mobile poultry trading has also been banned by general decree, as announced by the district office in Borna.

The epidemic is dynamic. The Friedrich Loeffler Institute now also considers the risk of the bird flu virus being spread via poultry shows to be high. The ban is therefore necessary in the current situation.

Avian influenza is also circulating in Saxony. Not only have numerous dead wild birds already been found, but the virus has also been detected in poultry farms. Thousands of animals have already been killed to prevent further spread.
