The number of homeless people in Saxony has risen significantly in recent years. Why this is and who is most frequently affected.

The number of homeless people in Saxony has risen sharply in recent years. At the beginning of this year, there were four times as many homeless people as three years ago, according to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz on the occasion of Homeless People's Day on Thursday. The number rose from 1,655 to 6,885 people. One reason for this could be an improved data situation, it said.

According to the statistics, almost half of all homeless people housed by municipalities and associations at the end of January 2025 were single people. More than a quarter of those affected were minors. There were twice as many men as women among the homeless.

The figures were collected on the cut-off date of January 31. They relate to homeless people who were given the opportunity to stay overnight. People living on the street or staying with acquaintances were not included in the statistics.
