After several difficult years, the eastern German construction industry appears to be on the up again. Incoming orders developed positively in 2025 and turnover remained more or less stable, according to the Construction Industry Association East. It referred to data from the Federal Statistical Office.
"Demand for construction services has picked up overall in 2025, and construction activity will follow suit with a time lag, meaning that the previous economic downturn has basically been halted," explained Managing Director Robert Momberg.
The order volume in the main construction sector in eastern Germany amounted to around 22.4 billion euros - an increase of 15.9 percent compared to the previous year. The strongest growth was recorded in residential construction (up 29.3 percent) and commercial construction (up 26.7 percent). In contrast, public construction orders remained at the previous year's level.
Turnover of 23.6 billion euros was nominally 3.3 percent above the previous year's level. In real terms - i.e. price-adjusted - sales fell by 0.3 percent, according to the association.
