Chemnitz was European Capital of Culture in 2025. The year helped to bring Europe closer together, says Saxony's Minister President Kretschmer.

According to Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU), the Chemnitz Capital of Culture year has contributed to Europe growing closer together. "Chemnitz has written cultural history," said Kretschmer in a video post on Facebook. Together with friends in Western and Eastern Europe, they negotiated what culture and Europe mean to us today and in the future.

On Saturday, the city officially celebrated the completion of the European Capital of Culture 2025. Chemnitz shared the title with the cities of Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and Gorizia (Italy).
