A good 50 monuments in Saxony were restored and renovated last year with funding from the German Foundation for Monument Protection. More than 1.2 million euros were contractually committed accordingly, as the private foundation announced in Bonn.
The projects included a Renaissance house in Torgau, the former Franciscan monastery in Zittau and the George Bähr Church in Pockau in the Ore Mountains. The Neues Leben cultural center in Grünhainichen-Borstendorf was also supported.
According to the figures, around 34.9 million euros in aid was provided for private and public monuments across Germany in 2025. More than 610 objects such as churches, chapels, castles, towers and private houses were supported.
The German Foundation for Monument Protection has existed since 1985 and uses private donations, bequests and funds from the Glücksspirale lottery, among other things, to support the preservation of endangered monuments.
