The Bundesliga handball players of Thüringer HC have reached the quarter-finals of the DHB Cup in commanding fashion after initial difficulties. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller defeated league rivals Buxtehuder SV 34:27 (14:13) in front of a home crowd on Sunday. Johanna Reichert was the THC's best scorer with nine goals.
The Thuringians were slow to get into the game and initially revealed big gaps in defense. As a result, Buxtehude led 8:5 after 14 minutes, but the home side then stabilized and also stepped up the pace in offense. However, it was only after the break that the THC was able to pull away with a 6:2 run to lead 20:15 in the 38th minute. Although the visitors, who were short of substitutes, did not give up, the Thuringians remained in control at all times and increased the lead in the final spell.
