The volleyball players of Dresdner SC have reached the semi-finals of the CEV Cup. After the 3-0 home win in the first leg, the German runners-up won the quarter-final second leg against French representative Volley Mulhouse Alsace by a clear 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-19).
This was the second time since 2014 that coach Alexander Waibl's team had reached the round of the best four teams in Europe's second-highest club competition. In the semi-finals, the DSC women will now face the Italian representative Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri, who beat the Polish team from Budowlani Lodz.
Diagonal attacker Levinska best point scorer
In front of 3,172 spectators, the Dresden women dictated the action from the start with powerful tasks, variable attacks and stable defending. Even when the French side equalized a three-point deficit in the second period, Waibl's players kept their cool and secured the set win in crunch time with good solutions in attack and two good blocking moves.
Jette Kuipers converted the second match point after a total of 87 minutes. The top scorer was once again diagonal attacker Marta Levinska with 18 points.
