Dresdner SC's women's volleyball team clearly won the quarter-final first leg of the European CEV Cup. Alexander Waibl's team won 3:0 (25:19, 25:22, 25:17) against the French representative Volley Mulhouse Alsace. In front of 2,079 spectators in their home arena, Dresden dictated the game for long stretches with powerful serving, stable reception and defense as well as clever solutions in attack.
The clear victory after 79 minutes put the German runners-up in an excellent starting position for the second leg next Wednesday in France. Two set wins will be enough for the Elbe side to reach the semi-finals.
Dresden had qualified for the last eight of the second-tier CEV Cup by finishing third in the group stage of the Champions League and can now advance to the top four for the second time since 2014.
The victory against Mulhouse was well deserved. In the second and third periods, the hosts trailed against the Alsatians at times. However, Dresden fought their way back both times thanks to strong blocking and court defense as well as clever serving strategy.
