Dynamo Dresden set another exclamation mark in the Bundesliga 2 and denied SV Darmstadt 98 a leap to the top of the table. The Saxons won 3:1 (2:0) against the runners-up and temporarily left the relegation places. Vincent Vermeij (45, 45.+1) had given the Saxons the lead with a brace just before the break.
At the time, Darmstadt were short-handed after a red card for Patric Pfeiffer (43). Christoph Daferner (81') sealed Dynamo's third home win of the season in front of 30,460 spectators. Yusuke Furukawa (90') only managed to add the final goal for Hesse. Dresden's Jakob Lemmer (53) was shown the yellow card for two fouls within 60 seconds.
Setbacks change the game
For 40 minutes, the two teams played a match of equals with few chances. Niklas Schmidt (20th) and Hiroki Akiyama (39th) found their mark in Dynamo goalkeeper Tim Schreiber. At the other end, Robert Wagner (28./34.) had no luck with his attempts.
The completely justified sending-off for Pfeiffer - he was the last man to bring down Ben Bobzien after losing the ball in front of the penalty area - changed everything. Dresden took advantage of the confusion in the visitors' defense in the person of Vermeij, who scored with a header and a direct shot.
Because Dynamo quickly gave up their numerical superiority, Darmstadt had the chance to get back into the game. The visitors' pressure increased, as did the Saxons' error rate. Schreiber (68) had to save his team from an own goal by Julian Pauli. Only then did Dresden regain their composure and try their luck on the counter-attack, one of which was decided by Daferner.
