Six percent less pay for women - despite equal starting salaries. How the gap has widened over the years and where Saxony stands in comparison to other federal states.

The pay gap between men and women also exists in Saxony, but it is smaller than the national average. According to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz, women in the state earned an average of six percent less than men in 2025. Nationwide, the difference in earnings was 16 percent.

The gender pay gap is significantly greater in the west than in the east. According to the statisticians, women in western Germany, including Berlin, earned 17 percent less than men. In the eastern German states, the figure was five percent.

The pay gap in Saxony increases the longer men and women work in a company. While gross earnings are the same in the first year of employment according to statisticians, there is a gap of 12 percent after 26 to 30 years of service.
