In Saxony, more and more people in need of care are dependent on additional state assistance to cover the costs. This is according to an answer from the Ministry of Social Affairs to a minor question from AfD politician Katja Dietz. According to this, 23,910 people in need of care received so-called care assistance in the previous year, 2,090 more people than in 2023.
Almost nobody can afford a place in a care home anymore, with costs of up to 3,000 euros per month, Dietz explained. "Either those in need of care are degraded to social cases despite their immense lifetime achievements or a family's painstakingly built-up assets are used up within a very short space of time. Both are degrading." She called for a residential care allowance, which would reduce the cost of a care place by more than 400 euros per month.
