The Saxon state parliament plans to vote today (from 10.00 a.m.) on the reform of broadcasting, among other things. The so-called Reform State Treaty requires the approval of all federal states. A close result is expected in Saxony.
The CDU, SPD and Greens have announced that they will vote unanimously in favor, while the AfD and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) will vote unanimously against. The Left Party intends to abstain. The non-attached MP Matthias Berger, who represents the Free Voters in parliament, was still undecided the evening before. According to the parliamentary groups' announcements, the treaty is likely to receive only a few more yes votes than no votes, which would be enough, however.
The reform treaty is intended to modernize and streamline public broadcasting. The remit of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio will be clarified and focused more strongly on information, education, culture and social cohesion.
At the beginning of the state parliament session, Justice Minister Constanze Geiert (CDU) will make a specialist government statement on the rule of law. Three topical debates are then on the agenda. At the request of the CDU, the focus will be on agricultural policy. The AfD is questioning social benefits for asylum seekers. The BSW would like to hold a discussion on the topic of compulsory military service. Later on, there will also be motions from the parliamentary groups. For example, the AfD wants the GDR moped Simson to become an intangible cultural heritage.
