He was considered one of the closest companions of former Saxon Prime Minister Kurt Biedenkopf. Now former government spokesman Michael Sagurna has died.

The former Saxon government spokesman Michael Sagurna is dead. He died on Monday at the age of 70, his family announced. The "Bild" newspaper first reported. "In recent years, he bore a serious illness quietly and with dignity - with an attitude that was a role model for us every day," the family statement read.

Sagurna was considered an important advisor to Biedenkopf

Sagurna came from Paderborn and studied communication sciences and law in Göttingen and Bonn. He later worked as a journalist. Saxony's first head of government after reunification, Kurt Biedenkopf (1930-2021), brought him to Dresden as government spokesman in 1991. Sagurna was considered an important advisor to Biedenkopf.

After Biedenkopf's resignation in April 2002, the CDU politician Sagurna once again briefly played a central role in the Saxon government. Minister President Georg Milbradt (CDU) brought him back as head of the Saxon State Chancellery in the fall of 2007. In 2005, he was also temporarily considered as government spokesperson under the then Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

Sagurna later switched to media supervision. From 2013 to 2019, he was President of the Media Council of the Saxon State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM).
