Affordable rooms in student residences are in high demand. How Saxony is improving the offer for students.

The Free State of Saxony is investing 62 million euros in the renovation and new construction of student residences. The money comes from the federal funding program "Young Living", the Ministry of Science announced. Around 1,500 of the coveted student residences could thus be brought up to date or newly created.

In Leipzig, two halls of residence are now fully available again following the completion of the modernization work. Investments are also being made in affordable student accommodation in Zwickau, Mittweida, Freiberg and Dresden. Saxony is lobbying the federal government to continue the funding program.
