Jehmlich organ at Dresden's Kreuzkirche to be renovated

The large Jehmlich organ in Dresden's Kreuzkirche is to be renovated. It will undergo a modernization of the technical system at the beginning of next year, said Ralf Jehmlich, Managing Director of Jehmlich Orgelbau Dresden GmbH. No easy task: a total of 6,300 pipes are installed - the smallest just six to seven millimetres, the largest pipe around ten meters long. The organ is reportedly the largest instrument in the state capital. The organ has 80 stops and was built in 1963. The organ building company was founded in 1808 and currently employs around 15 people.

Ahead of the nationwide Day of Crafts on September 20, the Dresden Chamber of Crafts presented various craft businesses in the state capital on Tuesday and drew attention to the current situation in the craft sector. Jörg Dittrich, President of the Dresden Chamber of Skilled Crafts, said that so far there has been a lack of a turnaround, which is crucial for smaller businesses. Small and medium-sized businesses in particular were struggling with high energy costs, increasing bureaucracy and escalating additional wage costs. He called on politicians to come up with an overall economic policy concept that would make Germany more competitive again.

In the Dresden chamber district, which includes the region of East Saxony, around 20,800 craft businesses with around 120,000 employees are listed. In Dresden alone, there are almost 5,300 craft businesses.
