Construction work at Dresden's main station, which has been closed since Friday, is on schedule. According to the current status, the project management expects the station to open on time on Monday morning, as a railroad spokeswoman announced on request.
No train services at the main station for three days
The main station had been closed since Friday morning due to the work and no trains were able to run. Long-distance services to and from Berlin and Leipzig ended and started in Dresden-Neustadt. Regular local services and additional replacement services on a specially set up streetcar line continued to the main station. There were replacement bus services to and from Prague between Neustadt and Usti nad Labem in the Czech Republic. This extended the journey time by around an hour.
Regional services and the S-Bahn were canceled on all lines in the area between Dresden's Neustadt, Reick, Plauen and Friedrichstadt stations. Passengers there also had to switch to alternatives on regular local services or the replacement services set up with buses and streetcar 26.
Further closure of the main station announced in mid-February
The reason for the closure was work on the crossing structure under Budapester Straße as part of the lengthy expansion of the Leipzig-Dresden line. The project should reach the halfway point this weekend, with completion planned by 2027. The railroad has announced a further closure of the main station for February 14 to 16.
