The season for mail to the Easter bunny has begun: The Upper Lusatian Easter Bunny post office in Seifhennersdorf is open. Until April 1, "Olli Osterhase" and his wife "Lotti Langohr" will once again be receiving letters from all over the world, according to the Querxenland youth recreation center.
There are no limits to their creativity: from homemade bunnies and eggs to spring pictures, Easter postcards and wish lists, they are happy to receive every letter. In response, they receive a personalized letter with a small surprise and a specially designed stamp.
Mail from all over the world
Each year, between 2,000 and 3,000 letters are sent to the Easter Bunny Post Office, which was launched in 2005. The idea came from a student at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. As part of her bachelor's thesis in 2004, she developed a concept to make the region more attractive for children and youth tourism.
Osterhasenpostamt is now known far beyond Upper Lusatia. The mailings come not only from Germany, but also from far-flung countries such as the Philippines, Japan and the USA, according to the press release. Examples of past Easter mail are on display in the "Easter Bunny Construction" at the Seifhennersdorf Children's and Youth Recreation Center.
Visit to "Olli Easter Bunny" and "Lotti Long-Ear"
On 29 March, the Sunday before Easter, the Youth Recreation Center invites families to the Easter Bunny Workshop. There, young and old can meet "Olli Easter Bunny", "Lotti Long-Ear" and their bunny helpers. The program includes Easter crafts, an Easter egg hunt and a colourful stage program.
