Dresden's Striezelmarkt has been certified as excellent. As one of twelve Christmas markets in Europe, it has been recognized this year by the "European Excellent Christmas Market Association", according to the Dresden city administration. An international jury selected Dresden from more than 600 markets and evaluated it based on ten criteria.
Striezelmarkt receives 95 out of a possible 100 points
Successful markets have to achieve between 90 and 100 points, and the Striezelmarkt received 95 points, it said. Among other things, the jury was impressed by the "varied offer, the unique visitor experience, the successful integration into the city and the high level of safety and sustainability" - each with 100 points. The "Excellent European Christmas Market" award will be presented on Friday.
"The seal of quality recognizes the unique variety and quality that can only be found at the Striezelmarkt. The more than 200 traders, the show workshops as well as the carefully selected cultural program and the themed houses - all this makes a visit to the market a fascinating journey through Saxon traditions and customs," says Jan Pratzka, Mayor of Economic Affairs.
The Dresden Striezelmarkt is one of the oldest of its kind in Germany. This year marks the 591st edition. The city expects around 90,000 visitors every day until December 24.
