The Saxon dialect will be celebrated for the first time at a dialect festival. The "Gogelmosch" brings together prominent dialect artists and "dialect fluencers", who are campaigning on stage and online for the preservation of the various Saxon regional dialects, as announced by the Saxon State Chancellery. Guests can look forward to a varied program of cabaret, comedy and satire at various venues in Dresden and Pirna from 2 to 5 October.
Dialect is home and tradition, said Minister President Michael Kretschmer. "It creates a sense of community and identity in these fast-moving times. Dialect connects, provides orientation and is a strong social anchor," emphasized the CDU politician.
Dresden cabaret artist and festival initiator Tom Pauls hopes that the "Gogelmosch" will raise awareness of his own dialect and its importance for the self-image of the Saxons. "It's also about further developing the tradition, understanding the dialect as the language of the homeland and enjoying it - across all generations."
