Choral music instead of fan chants: every year, the stadium of third-division soccer club Dynamo Dresden becomes a stage for the Kreuzchor choir and other ensembles at the Advent concert.

Good atmosphere even without the magic of soccer: the Kreuzchor, the Kapellknaben and other ensembles and soloists thrilled thousands of fans at the Advent concert in Dresden's Rudolf Harbig Stadium. The show was not least a feast for the eyes: more than 250 Herrnhut stars adorned the stadium, lasers and other lighting effects made the arena sparkle.

Nik P. and Sasha provide hits and pop

Hit singer Nik P. from Austria sang "Last Christmas" in German. Horn player Felix Klieser played Handel's "Daughter of Zion". The musician was born without arms and learned to operate the valves with the toes of his left foot. Pop singer Sasha also made an appearance and brought along his favorite Christmas songs.

The main musical acts were the Dresden Kreuzchor and the Dresdner Kapellknaben, as well as the MDR children's choir and the musical workshop "Oh-Töne". Presenter Ella Endlich could be heard singing "Süßer die Glocken nie klingen", among others.

Special feeling for football-loving choirboys

The performance in this arena is also something special for the Kruzians, who enjoy playing soccer in their free time. "I've often been to the stadium to watch soccer. Singing here now is something completely different and really great," admitted 12-year-old Valentin. Singing with three other choirs is something special, said Fritz, who is the same age. "It's really fun when so many people listen."

In addition to the music, the focus was also on charity. The Dixie Dörner Foundation - named after Dresden soccer legend Hans-Jürgen "Dixie" Dörner (1951-2022) - once again acted as the concert's charity partner. Money was raised for youth work and a tournament organized by the club Einheit Dresden Mitte, in which many teams from the region are to compete.
