Traveling by plane, respect for the opponent: 1. FC Magdeburg is not taking the cup match at fourth-division soccer club FV Illertissen lightly. "Everyone knows the danger. We get the boys in the right mood for a game like this, but they have to put it into practice on the pitch," said coach Petrik Sander on the special nature of the DFB Cup match on Wednesday (18:00) against lower-ranked opponents.
Magdeburg's regular central defender Jean Hugonet will not be able to play after suffering a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee. The Frenchman is expected to be out for six weeks. "We're not going to start a rotation machine, but we will make changes at certain points," announced Sander.
"Tricky task"
"We know how important the game is and want to take this with us on the road to Bochum without doing it on the side. It will be a tricky task - whoever knocks out Nuremberg in the first round already has quality," said Sander about opponents Illertissen. The 64-year-old believes his team is now strong enough to make it through to the round of 16.
The FCM will travel to and from Memmingen by plane on Wednesday in order to reduce the strain on the players as much as possible during the English week.
