The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has celebrated its second successive victory in the Eurocup. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore, which is struggling in the German league, won 85:79 (49:36) at Lithuanian club Lietkabelis Panevezys on Tuesday evening. Nike Sibande was the Niners' best scorer with 17 points.
The German club got off to a furious start and led 14:2 after just three-and-a-half minutes. However, Chemnitz then fell back into familiar patterns, was too static in attack and gave the Lithuanian club's three-point shooters too much space in defense. As a result, the home side tied the scores at 21:21 in the 8th minute. The Niners stepped up their intensity in defense considerably in the second quarter and used the ball they gained to build a comfortable cushion by the break.
After the break, the visitors stretched their lead to 64:46 in the 26th minute before completely losing their structure. Panevezys sensed his chance and cut the deficit to 79:80 with 77 seconds remaining, but the Niners held their nerve and saved their fifth victory in this Eurocup season.
