Vice world champion Merlin Hummel will compete at the Golden Oval in Dresden. The best German hammer thrower has confirmed his participation in the meeting on May 31st in the Heinz Steyer Stadium, as announced by the German Athletics Association (DLV). The meeting, which is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour, will see a further 13 decisions involving top national and international athletes. The hammer throw has been specially included in the program.
Hummel had won silver at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo last September with 82.77 meters. The Eintracht Frankfurt athlete achieved the best distance by a German hammer thrower in 25 years.
Hummel previously won the German championship title in Dresden. The 24-year-old is looking forward to his next appearance in the Elbe metropolis. "The atmosphere last year was supposedly really great. It's great that we have such a top-class meeting in Germany again," said the native of Upper Franconia, who is now coached by former world-class hammer thrower Kathrin Klaas.
