1. FC Magdeburg continues to rely on the current interim coaching duo Petrik Sander and Pascal Ibold. "Since Petrik and Pascal have been in charge, there has been a clear upward trend. The boys are pulling together and the players' heads are up again," said Otmar Schork, Managing Director of Sport at 1. FC Magdeburg, in a statement. "It is therefore the logical consequence that we continue on our common path in order to be able to play in the 2nd division next season as well."
FCM had previously suffered a setback in the fight to stay in the league in the third league match under Sander/Ibold. The Elbe club lost 2-0 (0-1) at VfL Bochum in front of 26,000 spectators. Kjell Wätjen (41') and Gerrit Holtmann (60') scored for VfL, Magdeburg's Falko Michel missed a penalty (81'). FCM remain in 18th place with seven points, three points behind the non-relegation places.
