Energie Cottbus are back at the top of the table and have pushed FC Erzgebirge Aue even deeper into the relegation mess. In the 2:1 (1:1) win in the Erzgebirge, coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz's team proved to be the more clever. Marcel Bär had put the hosts ahead after just five minutes, King Manu (12) equalized for the Lusatians. Axel Borgmann scored Cottbus' winner in the 87th minute in front of almost 12,000 spectators. As a result, Aue remain bottom of the table and are now four points adrift of safety.
After 51 minutes, the match was interrupted by referee Lukas Benen after Aue fans started to storm the Cottbus block. This was preceded by the rolling out of a provocative poster by visiting fans. The police, who were in the Erzgebirge with a large contingent due to the classification of the match as a high-security game, quickly managed to restore calm so that the game could continue after 14 minutes.
Clear advantages for Energie in the first half
Auer started well with a dream goal from Bär, but Energie responded in the style of a top team. Attack after attack rolled towards Martin Männel's goal, who was powerless to stop a header from Manu. After that, Cottbus' lead was in the air several times. The home side were not really active going forward until the 40th minute, usually losing the ball in the build-up and therefore coming under massive pressure. It was only after a corner kick that Jamilu Collins (39) had the second Violets chance of the game. On the counter-attack, Axel Borgmann missed somewhat miserably after a counter-attack.
Aue more courageous after the change, Cottbus cleverer
Aue began to press again after the change and had the chance to take the lead again through Jannic Ehlers (47) after a mistake by Marius Funk, but Anderson Lucoqui made an alert save. After the Lusatians regained control of the game, but did little to create any dangerous moments in front of the Auer goal, the Erzgebirge side became more courageous. A side-footed shot from substitute Julian Günther-Schmidt (72') was unfortunately cleared by team-mate Bär.
The visitors remained particularly dangerous on the counter-attack. Justin Butler (82') tested Männel with a touch. The keeper was powerless to stop Borgmann's goal three minutes from time. Tolcay Cigerci had served a free-kick to his brother Tolga, who headed the ball into the completely deserted middle, where the Energie captain then scored the winner.
