The Saxon SPD has a new state executive director from the new year. Dresden city councillor Stefan Engel will take up the post, the party announced. The 33-year-old succeeds Jens Wittig, who is leaving the post after eleven years.
Engel is an experienced local politician
"We are very much looking forward to working with Stefan Engel and are sure that the transition will go smoothly," said Saxon SPD chairman Henning Homann. He added that the party is very fortunate to have a very experienced local politician, who is very well connected within the SPD Saxony and knows the party in all its facets, taking over as state executive director.
The former Juso state chairman has been a member of the Dresden city council since 2019 and was a member of the SPD state executive from 2018 to 2025.
Wittig moves to the state parliamentary group
Homann thanked the outgoing Jens Wittig for his many years of commitment. He had contributed his skills and experience in numerous election campaigns. In future, Wittig will be Managing Director of the SPD parliamentary group in the state parliament.
