Two motions on wind power are on the agenda. Other topics include science, forest fires and taxes for the super-rich.

In its first session after the summer break, the Saxon state parliament is discussing two motions on wind energy today (from 10.00 a.m.). A joint bill by the governing CDU and SPD parliamentary groups and the BSW provides for municipalities to benefit more from the construction of wind turbines in future.

According to the bill, affected municipalities are to receive 0.3 cents per kilowatt hour generated from 2026 - an increase of 0.1 cents. The mandatory levy is to be paid by the wind turbine operators. In addition, the area targets are to be adapted to the federal government's requirements: 1.3 percent of the state's land area would initially be designated for wind energy by 2027 and two percent by 2032.

In addition, the state parliament is discussing a motion from the AfD on the topic of wind power. The parliamentary group wants to prevent "overloading Saxon municipalities with wind turbines". Rural regions in particular bear the burden of the energy transition, it said.

Ministerial statement on the future of science

The session will kick off with Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow (CDU) with a specialist government statement on the "future of Saxony as a state of science".

In the topical hour, the Left Party wants to discuss the taxation of the super-rich. The CDU will discuss the charter of displaced persons. At the request of the AfD, the topic will be public broadcasting.

Votes on forest fires and tenant protection

Decisions on motions from individual parliamentary groups are also on the agenda, including the consequences of the forest fire in Gohrischheide (BSW) and strengthening tenant protection (Greens).

In another session on Thursday, Minister-President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) will take the floor - in the government consultation on the modernization of the Free State.
