No premium increase for AOK policyholders

For around 3.5 million AOK policyholders in Saxony and Thuringia, the health insurance contribution will remain unchanged in the coming year. The additional contribution will remain stable at 3.1 percent, AOK Plus announced after a meeting of the administrative board. The total contribution, which is shared by employees and employers, also includes the general rate of 14.6 percent.

Politicians have called for reforms. "Expenditure for insured persons and employers has been rising for years. Yet people are hardly noticing any improvements in medical care," stated Sven Nobereit, Chairman of the Employers' Side of the Board of Directors. Instead of making the healthcare system fit for the future, only more money has been pumped into the system. This has entrenched inefficiencies. "Therefore, 2026 must finally be the year in which real structural reforms begin."

AOK Plus is the largest health insurance provider in Saxony and Thuringia. According to the figures, it covers more than half (57 percent) of those with statutory health insurance in both states. Its budget for 2026 has a volume of 23.55 billion euros. Of this, 18.51 billion euros will be spent on health insurance and 4.44 billion euros on long-term care insurance.
