Kretschmer: Predominant part of special assets for municipalities

In the view of Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU), the federal government's special fund should be used mainly under the free responsibility of the municipalities and districts. With the total of 4.8 billion euros for the Free State, there is the possibility of making important investments, said Kretschmer.

The guiding principle is that around two thirds of the money could be distributed via the municipal administration. This must now be discussed, the board of the Saxon Association of Towns and Municipalities is meeting to discuss this. "Our colleagues need to think about it," said Kretschmer.

Kretschmer: Government listens to municipalities

With a lump sum per municipality, the large cities would have an enormous advantage, while the amounts would remain too low for small municipalities. The opposite is true for specialist programs. "There needs to be a sensible balance," said Kretschmer. The government is listening to what the cities and municipalities are saying.

The Bundestag and Bundesrat had agreed on a special fund of 500 billion euros for additional investment in infrastructure and climate protection. Of this, 100 billion euros is to go to the federal states, which will decide how to allocate it themselves. Saxony will receive 400 million euros each over the next twelve years.
