Travelers on the busy commuter line from Leipzig to Dresden will have to be prepared for further restrictions at the end of July. Deutsche Bahn announced that the second new track will be connected to the control and safety technology at Zeithain.
For this reason, long-distance trains between Dresden and Leipzig will be rerouted from July 25 to 28. Riesa will not be served. Departure times will change for local services, and replacement buses will be used between Riesa and Elsterwerda and Riesa and Priestewitz.
The railroad has successively expanded the Leipzig-Dresden line in recent years. In future, trains should be able to travel at a speed of 200 km/h throughout. This should reduce the journey time between the two major cities to less than an hour.
